Africa Youth Can Win AI Trip to China in New Competition

Young Africans working on artificial intelligence projects just got a major opportunity to share their innovations with the world and connect with global tech leaders.

The Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation launched an AI Case Innovation Competition open to youth across the continent. Winners will travel to China for exchange programs and study visits, plus receive certificates and prizes for their work.

The competition runs under the theme "AI for a Smarter Future, China and Africa Advancing Together on a New Journey." It celebrates 70 years of diplomatic relations between China and African nations as part of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

Organizers want to see AI applications that are already solving real problems. Submissions can showcase projects improving public services, advancing scientific research, transforming traditional industries, or promoting cultural understanding between nations.

University students, young researchers, startup founders, and AI professionals working across Africa can all apply. The competition welcomes anyone under 35 who's developing or implementing AI solutions with demonstrated impact.

Education-focused AI tools are especially welcome. Projects that boost digital literacy, support entrepreneurship, or provide skills training fit perfectly into the talent development category.

The Ripple Effect

This competition does more than recognize good ideas. It creates bridges between young innovators across two continents, opening doors for collaboration that could amplify solutions already working in African communities.

The study visits offer African youth direct access to China's AI research centers and tech hubs. These connections could lead to partnerships, funding opportunities, and knowledge exchanges that accelerate innovation back home.
