African AI Program Offers $100K and Full Training in Ghana

Young software developers across West Africa now have a shot at turning their AI ideas into funded startups without paying a penny for the training.

The MEST AI Startup Program just opened applications for its 2027 cohort, offering a fully-sponsored 11-month journey from learning to launching. The program covers everything: AI development training, entrepreneurship skills, accommodations in Accra, flights to Ghana, healthcare, and even a chance at $100,000 in pre-seed investment.

The opportunity targets entrepreneurs ages 21 to 30 from West African countries who have software development experience and a basic grasp of artificial intelligence. Even without a formal degree, strong coding skills can get you through the door.

Here's how it works. Participants spend seven months in intensive training, learning AI software development, building teams, validating customer needs, and developing minimum viable products. Then the top performers move into a four-month incubation phase where they refine their products and prepare for investors.

The real magic happens in the mentorship. MEST connects founders with professionals from OpenAI, Google, Perplexity, and Meltwater who guide them through building globally competitive startups. The program teaches participants how to scale, acquire users, and validate business models that work beyond Africa's borders.

At the end of incubation, the strongest startups pitch for investment funding. Top performers can receive up to $100,000 and join the MEST portfolio ecosystem, unlocking ongoing support and investor connections.
