Nigeria Gives 1,000 Laptops to Tech Students on Credit

Thousands of Nigerians training for tech careers just got the tools they need to succeed, thanks to a new program that removes the biggest barrier between them and their futures.

The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation launched C.L.I.C.K.D. on July 21 in Abuja, a program that provides affordable credit for laptops and internet devices. Instead of saving for months or years to buy equipment outright, qualifying Nigerians can now get what they need through structured payment plans.

The first phase focuses on 1,000 fellows in the government's Three Million Technical Talent program. These students are learning valuable digital skills through the Learn2Earn platform, but many couldn't afford the laptops needed to complete their training or start working.

At the launch ceremony, 77 students in Abuja became the first to receive their devices. The remaining 923 laptops will reach students across Nigeria in the coming weeks.

What makes this program special is where the laptops come from. Every device is assembled in Nigeria by local manufacturers NASENI and Imose Technologies. This approach creates jobs at home while making tech education more accessible.

The program partners with Fidelity Bank to manage the credit process, ensuring borrowers can repay responsibly without financial strain. Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, emphasized that skills alone aren't enough without the right tools to use them.

The Ripple Effect

C.L.I.C.K.D. creates wins on multiple fronts. Students gain access to equipment they need for careers. Local manufacturers get business that supports Nigerian jobs. The digital economy grows as more trained workers can actually participate.

The program isn't stopping at 1,000 laptops. CREDICORP designed C.L.I.C.K.D. to expand across all types of digital devices and connectivity tools. They're inviting more banks, manufacturers and tech vendors to join, planning to reach millions of Nigerians over time.

Managing Director Uzoma Nwagba explained that the program transforms devices from obstacles into opportunities. By embedding affordable credit into national training programs, they're giving people a responsible path to the tools that unlock earning potential.

Working Nigerians nationwide can register for the program, not just current students. The 3MTT partnership is just the beginning of what CREDICORP envisions as an open, growing initiative that scales device financing across the country.
