Africa's Creative Economy Summit Unites 1000s in Zambia

When thousands of delegates from across Africa arrived in Zambia's capital this week, they came with a shared mission: transform the continent's extraordinary creative talent into economic powerhouse.

The Africa Creative Market 2026 brought together government officials, investors, entrepreneurs, and artists from Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Senegal, and beyond for six days of deal-making, innovation showcases, and strategy sessions. Fashion designers, filmmakers, photographers, and visual artists connected across traditionally separate industries. The week featured specialized summits for women in film, photography business growth, and sustainable fashion manufacturing, alongside the Zambian premiere of feature film "77" that drew acclaimed actors and government officials.

The Ripple Effect

The summit's impact extends far beyond networking. By connecting Zambian creators with established markets in Nigeria and South Africa, ACM 2026 is building the cross-border pipelines that turn individual talent into continental industries.

New legal infrastructure through the African Creative Economy Lawyer initiative means creators will have better protection for their work. Investment forums resulted in concrete conversations about financing creative ventures as legitimate businesses, not just passion projects.

Dr. Inya Lawal, founder of Africa Creative Market, chose Zambia deliberately. "People often ask me why we chose Zambia. My answer has always been simple: because Zambia is ready," she said. The country's commitment to supporting creative industries made it the ideal testing ground for continental collaboration.

The gathering proved that Africa's creative sectors represent more than artistic expression. They're emerging as significant economic drivers capable of competing globally when supported by proper infrastructure, strategic investment, and enabling policies.
