After 39 Years Together, Terry Marries Cecily at Age 90

When Terry turned 90 last year, he did something he'd been putting off for nearly 40 years: he finally married Cecily, the love of his life.

The couple first met in their 40s when they both owned businesses in the same Australian neighborhood. Years later, after both divorced, they took a trip to Bali where Terry asked Cecily to move in with him.

"My bags are packed," she replied.

That was 39 years ago. For most of those decades, Cecily had one wish: to marry Terry and officially become part of his family.

When she turned 70, she asked him directly. Terry, who preferred their arrangement as it was, gave her a cheeky answer: "I'll marry you when I get to 90."

He didn't know if he'd reach that age. But as his 90th birthday approached, Cecily started reminding him.

"It's getting closer," she'd say with a smile.

Terry is a man of his word. On his milestone birthday, surrounded by 70 friends and family members in their flower-filled garden, he married Cecily.

Terry's grandson tended bar while his daughter-in-law catered and his granddaughter did Cecily's makeup. During the ceremony, Terry pretended to drop the ring, making everyone gasp before laughing.

"I couldn't get the smile off my face," Terry recalls.

The couple couldn't be more different. Terry is the adventurer who rides motorcycles worldwide, parachutes from planes, and still plays tennis regularly at 90.

Cecily prefers sitting on a yacht with champagne in hand. But these differences are exactly why they work so well together.

Now Cecily has lost much of her sight and mobility, and Terry cares for her while she encourages him to keep riding and playing sports. When they disagree, they go to bed thinking they're right, but wake up and move on.

"Yesterday is yesterday," Cecily says.

She turned 90 this month and hopes for another 10 years together. Terry wants 10 more on top of that.
