Comedian's Wedding Surprise: 1,400 Guests and a Half-Song

Planning for 500 wedding guests and getting 1,400 sounds like a logistical nightmare, but for comedian Jeong Beom-gyun, it became one of his favorite stories to tell.

The Korean comedian recently appeared on fellow comedian Heo Kyung-hwan's YouTube channel to reminisce about his wedding day 14 years ago. Jeong was just 27 years old when he tied the knot, and his growing celebrity status meant the guest list quickly spiraled beyond his control.

"We had expected 500 seats, but since there were more people than expected, we urgently rented out the entire hotel," Jeong recalled. The venue scrambled to prepare additional meals while guests sat wherever they could find space.

The seating chaos led to some unexpectedly hilarious moments. "A friend of my father-in-law ended up sitting next to senior Yoo Jae-seok," Jeong laughed, referring to one of Korea's most famous comedians and TV hosts.

But the biggest surprise came from the congratulatory performance. Jeong had asked Mithra Jin from the popular hip-hop group Epik High to perform "Umbrella," one of their most beloved songs. The artist declined, saying the track was too difficult to perform solo.

Instead, Mithra chose a different song from their album. "He performed a song that I hadn't even heard as the congratulatory song," Jeong said. Then came the kicker: "He even sang only the first verse and said, 'I'll stop here,' and left."
