Ahmedabad Metro Extends Hours to 1 AM for Cricket Fans

Getting home after a thrilling cricket match just got a whole lot easier for fans in Ahmedabad.

The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation announced that metro services will run until 12:50 AM on seven nights when the Indian Premier League plays at Narendra Modi Stadium. Instead of the usual 10 PM shutdown, trains will keep rolling for nearly three extra hours after matches end.

The special service kicks off April 4 and continues through May 12, covering matches scheduled for April 17, 20, 26, 30, and May 3 and 12. Fans leaving from Motera Stadium and Sabarmati stations can catch trains to destinations across both metro corridors.

The transit authority created a simple flat-rate system for late-night travel. Special paper tickets cost 50 rupees per person and work for the entire extended service period. Regular tickets and passes only work until the normal 10 PM closing time.

Smart planning makes the system even more convenient. Passengers can buy their return tickets in advance at 15 different metro stations throughout the day, skipping the post-game rush at the stadium. The advance purchase option means fans can focus on enjoying the match instead of worrying about long ticket lines.

The metro will serve different routes with slightly different end times. Trains from Motera Stadium to APMC run until 12:30 AM, while routes from Old High Court Interchange to both Vastral Gam and Thaltej Gam operate until 12:50 AM. The Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir line wraps up at 12:10 AM.

Extended transit hours mean safer travel options for thousands of people, reducing the need for late-night driving and potentially decreasing traffic congestion around the stadium. Families can now attend evening matches together without worrying about how young children will get home safely.

The affordable flat rate also makes the experience accessible to more people. At 50 rupees regardless of distance, fans from across the city can budget easily for their trip home.
