India's Mahindra Hits 400K Electric Commercial Vehicles
Mahindra Last Mile Mobility just became the first Indian commercial vehicle maker to sell 400,000 electric vehicles, powering livelihoods while avoiding emissions equal to planting 8.3 million trees. The company now aims to put 1 million EVs on Indian roads by 2031.
Four hundred thousand electric vehicles now power small businesses across India, thanks to one company's mission to make green transportation affordable for everyday workers.
Mahindra Last Mile Mobility became India's first commercial vehicle manufacturer to cross 400,000 electric vehicle sales this week. The company has held the top spot in electric commercial vehicles for four consecutive years.
These aren't luxury cars for wealthy buyers. Mahindra's electric fleet includes three-wheelers and small cargo vehicles used by delivery drivers, shopkeepers, and small business owners who depend on them for daily income.
The vehicles have collectively traveled over 9 billion kilometers across Indian cities and towns. That distance equals more than 22,000 trips around Earth.
The company focused on making electric vehicles financially smart, not just environmentally friendly. Drivers switched because the vehicles saved them money on fuel and maintenance while supporting their businesses.

The Ripple Effect
Those 400,000 vehicles represent 400,000 livelihoods transformed. Small business owners who once struggled with rising fuel costs now have predictable, lower operating expenses.
The environmental impact adds up too. The electric fleet has avoided approximately 185,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to the carbon absorbed by 8.3 million trees.
Mahindra achieved this by investing beyond just manufacturing. The company built charging infrastructure, created financing options for small buyers, and provided customer support tailored to working-class drivers.
Suman Mishra, the company's CEO, emphasized that the milestone represents people, not just numbers. "It is 400,000 livelihoods we helped power every single day," he said.
The company's vehicle lineup includes the Treo range, UDO, Zor Grand, e-Alfa, and ZEO. These models serve different needs in India's last-mile delivery and passenger transport sectors.
Mahindra now targets putting 1 million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2031, more than doubling its current achievement in just five years.
