Air Ambulance Gets £600K, Nears New Base Goal

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is racing toward its dream facility after the HELP Appeal charity doubled down with another £300,000 donation.

This second gift brings the Operation Airbase campaign to £3 million raised, just £600,000 shy of the £3.6 million goal. The HELP Appeal kicked off the fundraising in September 2024 with an initial £300,000, then came back with matching funds to seal the deal.

The new headquarters near Southampton Airport isn't just a nicer building. It's a life-saving strategic move that will slash response times in half across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Highly trained doctors and paramedics will reach nearly every patient within 10 minutes of takeoff, compared to the current 20 minutes or more. In medical emergencies, those extra 10 minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

The HELP Appeal is the only UK charity focused entirely on funding hospital helipads and air ambulance bases. They've already built helipads at Southampton General Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight, plus funded two emergency response vehicles for this same air ambulance service.

The Ripple Effect

This isn't just about one facility or one community. Thousands of people across two counties will benefit from faster emergency care for decades to come.

The campaign has been powered entirely by everyday people, local businesses, community groups, and charitable foundations stepping up over the past 18 months. No government funding, just neighbors helping neighbors prepare for their worst days.

Robert Bertram from the HELP Appeal said the new base represents crucial lifesaving infrastructure that communities depend on during critical moments. Richard Corbett, the air ambulance CEO, called the support overwhelming and said the impact will touch thousands of lives for years.

With 83% of the funding secured and momentum building, this air ambulance is cleared for landing at its new home.
