Rural communities across Alabama are getting access to vision care they desperately need, thanks to a mobile eye clinic rolling into towns like Cullman twice a month.
Since May 2023, the Alabama Lions Sight Mobile Eye Clinic has provided comprehensive eye exams and eyeglasses to more than 200 people in Cullman County. The service offers reduced fees and welcomes anyone in the community, not just existing clinic patients.
The partnership started when the local Cullman Lions Club approached Good Samaritan Health Clinic with an idea. They wanted to bring professional vision care to neighbors who couldn't easily access it.
"It was their idea to bring this much needed service to Cullman," said Susan Crane, Community Engagement Coordinator at Good Samaritan Health Clinic. Lions Club volunteers now show up faithfully each month to help make it happen.
The mobile clinic will visit Good Samaritan on August 26 and September 30 this year. The September visit marks a special milestone as it will be the first time the clinic parks at Good Samaritan's brand new 5,040-square-foot facility on Veterans Drive.
