Aldi Bringing 40 Jobs to Northumberland Coastal Town

Residents of Amble, a thriving coastal town in Northumberland, won't have to drive to neighboring towns for affordable groceries much longer. Supermarket chain Aldi just announced plans to build a new store that will create 40 full-time jobs in the community.

The timing couldn't be better for Amble. The popular seaside destination has welcomed several new housing developments in recent years, bringing more families who need convenient shopping options.

Right now, anyone wanting to shop at Aldi has to make the trip to either Alnwick or Ashington. The new store will sit on a brownfield site at Amble Retail Park, transforming unused land into a community resource.

Aldi plans to occupy a space that was approved for retail development back in 2019 but never built. The location already hosts a Morrisons superstore, and the addition of Aldi will give shoppers more choices without requiring new land development.

Helen Simms, Aldi's Real Estate Director, says the store is "well placed to bring Aldi's award-winning, high-quality and affordable grocery offering to the town." The company is actively seeking feedback from local residents as they move forward with plans.

The Ripple Effect

Local officials are celebrating the announcement as a win that goes beyond just one store. Councillor Scott Dickinson spent months meeting with Aldi's investment team and making the case for Amble, work that many people questioned at the time.

His persistence paid off in a big way. The new store signals growing confidence in Amble's local economy and proves that smaller coastal communities can attract major retail investment.

Councillor Richard Wearmouth, who also advocated for the project, calls it a "logical addition" that brings choice to shoppers in an already established retail area. For a town experiencing steady growth, having major employers competing to serve the community is exactly the kind of problem residents want.
