Amazon India Creates 160,000 Jobs for Festival Season

When the festive season arrives in India, millions of families go online to shop for celebrations. This year, Amazon India created 160,000 new jobs to make sure every order reaches customers on time.

The jobs span 400 cities across India, from bustling metros to smaller towns like Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, and Gorakhpur. Workers will handle everything from picking and packing orders to final delivery at doorsteps.

Amazon focused on creating opportunities for groups often overlooked in the workforce. Thousands of positions went to women and workers with disabilities across the company's network.

The jobs come with meaningful support beyond just a paycheck. Workers get access to safety programs, financial security measures, and help enrolling in government welfare schemes through Amazon's Samridhi program.

Amazon recently launched Sammaan, a new welfare initiative specifically for delivery workers. The program includes scholarships for workers' children, insurance coverage, and on-road safety measures to protect delivery associates.

Most seasonal workers have already started and completed their training. Many will continue working with Amazon long after the festival season ends, while others return year after year.

The Ripple Effect

These 160,000 jobs create income for families across India right when they need it most. Festival season means extra expenses for celebrations, gifts, and gatherings with loved ones.

The hiring also strengthens local economies in smaller cities that don't always see major job creation. Towns like Ranchi, Salem, and Ghaziabad now host Amazon operations that provide steady work opportunities.

"Many of these associates continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period," said Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India. Some seasonal workers find permanent careers, while the company's delivery network continues growing.

Amazon India now works with over 1.7 million sellers and operates fulfillment centers across 15 states. The company partners with 28,000 hub delivery services and thousands of independent flex drivers to reach customers everywhere.

For 160,000 people, this festive season brings more than celebrations. It brings opportunity, income, and the chance to be part of India's growing digital economy.
