Amazon Invests $12B More in Mississippi, 800 Jobs Coming

Amazon just announced another $12 billion investment in central Mississippi, bringing 800 new jobs and raising its two-year commitment to the state to $25 billion. The tech giant is betting big on Mississippi's workforce with data centers and partnerships with local colleges to create high-paying career pathways.

Amazon is pouring another $12 billion into Mississippi communities, and this time it's personal for the people of Madison and Clinton.

The tech giant announced Thursday it's expanding its existing data center operations in Madison County with an $11 billion investment that will create 700 new jobs. Another $1 billion project in Clinton will retrofit an old manufacturing plant and add 100 more positions.

Governor Tate Reeves joined Amazon executives to share the news, noting this brings the company's total Mississippi investment to $25 billion in just two years. That's more than 2,000 jobs promised to a state ready to prove itself on the national stage.

The Madison County expansion builds on Amazon's 2024 commitment when it first announced plans to establish data center campuses there. The Clinton project breathes new life into the former Delphi Corporation plant, marking Amazon's first location in the city.

David Zapolsky, Amazon's Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, made it clear the company sees more potential ahead. "We're just getting started," he said at the announcement.

The Ripple Effect

This investment reaches far beyond construction crews and data center technicians. Amazon is partnering with Mississippi's community colleges and universities to build training programs that create pathways to high-paying careers for residents who might never have imagined working in tech.

Entergy Mississippi played a crucial role in sealing the deal by committing to meet Amazon's long-term power needs. CEO Haley Fisackerly explained that supporting Amazon's speed-to-market requirements showed the company Mississippi could deliver on its promises, bringing them back "time and again."

The partnership benefits all Entergy customers too. The company says Amazon's investments help strengthen the power grid, improve reliability, and keep future bills lower than they would have been otherwise.

Amazon's Mississippi footprint now spans three counties in the central part of the state. Last November, the company announced a $3 billion project in Vicksburg creating at least 200 positions.

Local leaders in Madison County, Ridgeland, Hinds County, and Clinton worked together to make the expansion possible. Mississippi's Major Economic Impact Authority continues supporting Amazon's cloud computing and data center investments through state funds.

Governor Reeves captured the moment's significance simply: "This is what transformational economic growth looks like, and it's happening right here, right now."
