Amazon Launches AI Health Assistant for Medical Questions

Searching symptoms online usually ends in panic or confusion, but Amazon wants to change that spiral into something helpful.

The company just launched Amazon Health AI, a digital assistant that lives inside the Amazon app and helps people understand their health without the fear-inducing rabbit holes. You type a health question into a chat box, and the system can explain lab results, review symptoms, help schedule appointments, and connect you with real doctors when needed.

The tool becomes smarter when you grant it access to your medical history through a secure national network. If someone with asthma develops a cough, for example, Health AI considers that specific history instead of treating it like any random cough.

When symptoms suggest something serious, the system directs people toward emergency services. For everything else, it connects directly with clinicians from Amazon One Medical through messaging, video visits, or in-person appointments.

Dr. Andrew Diamond, chief medical officer at Amazon One Medical, says nearly two-thirds of Americans feel overwhelmed by the healthcare system. Health AI handles the logistical work that creates friction so doctors and patients can focus on actual healing.

Amazon Prime members get a bonus: up to five free message-based consultations with One Medical providers for common conditions like colds, allergies, pink eye, and UTIs. Outside this promotion, message visits typically cost about $29.

This shift could reshape how millions of people first engage with healthcare. Instead of suffering through confusing insurance mazes or waiting weeks for appointments, they can get quick answers and faster connections to care.

The service runs inside a HIPAA-compliant environment with encryption and strict privacy controls. Amazon says health information stays protected and separate from shopping data.

Amazon is gradually rolling out Health AI to U.S. customers, with availability varying by location. The goal is simple: make healthcare feel less like a maze and more like having a knowledgeable friend who actually knows your medical history.
