Amazon, Wiwynn Invest $1.6B in Texas, Creating 1,000 Jobs

A small Texas town is about to become a major player in America's tech manufacturing comeback, and it's bringing thousands of good jobs with it.

Amazon and cloud infrastructure company Wiwynn just announced a $1.6 billion expansion of their Socorro, Texas manufacturing facility. The site builds servers and racks that power Amazon's massive data center operations across the country.

The expansion will create nearly 1,000 new advanced manufacturing jobs by the end of 2027. These aren't just assembly line positions. They span engineering, automation, testing, maintenance, production, and supply chain operations.

By 2027, total employment at the Socorro facility will exceed 2,500 workers. At full capacity, that number will hit 4,000 people building the physical backbone of America's digital infrastructure right here at home.

This marks Wiwynn's first U.S. manufacturing operation, and Amazon's commitment to moving custom hardware production back to American soil. For years, most tech manufacturing happened overseas, but that tide is turning.

The Ripple Effect

The Socorro facility represents just one piece of Amazon's massive Texas investment. Since 2010, the company has poured over $100 billion into the Lone Star State, creating more than 86,000 direct jobs statewide.

Those direct jobs spark even more opportunity. Amazon estimates their Texas operations support an additional 90,000 indirect jobs across construction, logistics, retail, and other industries that serve the growing tech ecosystem.

"By investing in U.S.-produced server racks, we're helping to strengthen the domestic supply chain and boost U.S. manufacturing capacity," Amazon shared when announcing the expansion. That stronger supply chain means faster responses to demand, less vulnerability to global disruptions, and more American workers building America's future.

Gary Szilagyi, vice president of Annapurna Labs at Amazon, emphasized the broader vision behind these investments. Moving critical infrastructure manufacturing stateside creates resilience while generating economic opportunity in communities that need it most.

Socorro itself has transformed from a quiet border town into a hub of advanced manufacturing, proving that tech jobs aren't confined to Silicon Valley anymore.

The facility's growth timeline shows serious commitment, with construction and hiring ramping up steadily through 2027 and beyond as operations scale to full capacity. These are stable, long-term jobs in an industry that's only growing.
