Arkansas is putting its money where its students are, recognizing 167 public schools across the state with nearly $7 million in awards for exceptional academic achievement and growth.

The 2026 Arkansas Gem Schools program celebrates educators and school leaders who are producing real results in classrooms statewide. Schools earned recognition by ranking in the top 10% for student achievement and growth in reading, math, and science.

"Student success does not happen by accident," said Secretary of Education Jacob Oliva. "It is the result of dedicated educators, supportive families, strong school leadership, and a shared commitment to helping every child thrive."

Schools that rank in the top 10% for overall achievement or student growth receive up to $100 per student. Other schools earned recognition for excellence in specific subjects or for three consecutive years of sustained improvement across multiple measures.

The best part? Schools get to decide how to use their award money. Local committees made up of teachers, parents, and school leaders will determine whether funds go toward staff bonuses, new educational materials, or additional support that keeps student success rolling.
