Arkansas Cancer Center Marks 30 Years of Local Care

For 30 years, cancer patients in Northwest Arkansas have had something precious: the ability to fight their disease without leaving home.

Highlands Oncology marked its 30th anniversary Saturday in Rogers, celebrating how cancer care has transformed in the region. What started as a mission to bring specialized treatment closer to families has grown into a comprehensive cancer center serving thousands.

"Tonight, we celebrate our history, honor those who built it, recognize those who will continue to carry it forward, and we commit ourselves to ensure that every patient facing cancer has access to exceptional care here at home," said Lekan Ajayi, the center's chief operating officer. That phrase "here at home" carries weight for families who once faced grueling trips to distant cities during the hardest moments of their lives.

Three decades ago, a cancer diagnosis in Northwest Arkansas often meant choosing between quality care and staying near your support system. Patients traveled hours to Little Rock, Tulsa, or beyond for treatment, missing precious time with family and adding exhaustion to an already brutal journey.

Highlands Oncology changed that equation. The center brought oncologists, advanced treatments, and specialized care to Rogers, transforming what local cancer treatment looked like.

The Ripple Effect

When cancer care comes to your community, the benefits multiply beyond the treatment room. Patients sleep in their own beds between chemotherapy sessions. Kids attend their parent's appointments without missing school. Local employers keep valued team members close during recovery.
