Armenian Bears Find Freedom at Highland Sanctuary

Bears who spent years locked in tiny cages across Armenia are finally experiencing grass under their paws and open sky overhead.

The animals were kept as status symbols by wealthy property owners and businesses throughout the country. Many suffered from neglect, receiving inadequate food and no proper veterinary care while confined to small spaces.

Now, these rescued bears are recovering at a wildlife refuge nestled in Armenia's highlands. The sanctuary provides space for the animals to heal both physically and psychologically from their years in captivity.
