AssessPrep Saves 1M Teacher Hours With Smarter Tests

Teachers spend countless hours grading tests, only to hand back a single percentage that tells students almost nothing about what they actually need to improve. AssessPrep is changing that by transforming every test question into a detailed roadmap of student learning.

The Gurugram-based platform works with more than 800 schools across 85 countries, tagging each question to specific curriculum standards from IB, Cambridge, and Advanced Placement. Instead of just seeing that a student scored 72%, teachers now know exactly which topics need more attention.

Co-founder Karan Gupta spotted the problem during his economics studies at JNU. Governments were pouring money into education, but reading and math scores weren't budging. He realized schools couldn't accurately measure what students were learning, so they couldn't fix the gaps.

The platform handles everything from creating tests to analyzing results. Teachers select a subject, and AI generates questions aligned with their curriculum, or they can choose from 70,000 existing questions. Schools not ready for digital can even print the same test on paper.

The grading is where things get interesting. Multiple choice questions grade instantly, but essays need a human touch. AssessPrep's AI grades written answers against teacher-set criteria with 85% to 90% accuracy, then sends every response to a teacher for final review before students see it.

Privacy protections run deep. No student names, gender, or race touch the AI during grading. The platform is GDPR-compliant and meets EU AI Act standards, with data never used to train models.

Schools pay $6 to $25 per student annually depending on size. Most are private international schools serving grades 6-12, though US public districts and African schools are growing fast.

The Ripple Effect

That million hours saved translates to real time teachers can spend actually teaching. Instead of drowning in paperwork and red pen marathons, they're getting precise data about where each student needs help.

The platform supports 13 languages and integrates with tools schools already use like Google Classroom and Canvas. Teachers control how much the AI does, from just drafting feedback to full grading pending their approval.

Some schools use it only for generating practice questions. Others have gone fully digital with screen-locking features that prevent tab-switching during exams.

The broader impact reaches beyond efficiency. When a teacher knows that 60% of their class struggled with a specific algebra concept, they can reteach it before moving on. When a student sees exactly which grammar rules they're missing, they know what to practice.

Better assessments mean better teaching, and that feedback loop is what Gupta bet on back in 2016 when he launched with two college friends from BITS Pilani.

The platform now operates in a market projected to hit $32 billion by 2033, proving that schools everywhere share the same frustration with one-size-fits-all test scores.
