Astana Launches Driverless Rail After Decade of Work

After a decade of planning, construction, and setbacks, Astana has something to celebrate: a brand new driverless train system gliding through the streets of Kazakhstan's capital.

The Light Rail Transit system officially launched this month, connecting 18 stations along a 22.4-kilometer route. The automated trains link key destinations including the airport, Nurly Zhol railway station, and the bustling city center.
