Athlete Completes Marathon in Burpee Jumps, Sets World Record

🤯 Mind Blown

A German fitness athlete just covered a full marathon distance by doing burpee broad jumps for six and a half days straight, shaving nearly 24 hours off the previous world record. Kevin Ociepka completed about 30,000 jumps while raising money for children with cancer in his hometown.

Kevin Ociepka spent six and a half days dropping to the ground, popping back up, and jumping forward over 30,000 times to complete a marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

The 31-year-old HYROX athlete from Baunatal, Germany finished the challenge on September 8th with an official time of 155 hours, 44 minutes, and 51 seconds. He shaved nearly a full day off the previous record set just two months earlier in Australia.

Ociepka tackled the challenge on the track at Parkstadion, the same stadium where he grew up training. His hometown incorporated the attempt into their 60th anniversary celebration and opened the stadium so neighbors could join him on the track and try the movement themselves.

The burpee broad jump requires perfect form on every single repetition. Chest must touch the ground, then you jump up, then land a two-footed jump squarely forward. If your feet stagger on landing, the rep doesn't count.

Ociepka averaged about 1.4 meters of distance per jump across 108 laps of the track. While elite athletes can cover one mile of burpee broad jumps in about an hour going full speed, his average worked out to one mile every five hours and 56 minutes across the entire week.

The clock never stopped. Every meal, every sleep break, and every hour spent recovering between sessions counted toward his final time, similar to how multi-day ultramarathons work.

The Ripple Effect

The week-long event raised money for a children's cancer foundation while bringing the community together. Locals came out throughout the week to cheer him on and participate themselves.

The idea started almost accidentally during a training camp in Crete last year, where Ociepka covered a mile in burpee broad jumps and thought he might have beaten the existing record. An athlete from India who held an earlier record saw the post, and the friendly competition began.

Ociepka trains up to nine times per week and competes in HYROX, a hybrid fitness competition that includes burpee broad jumps as one of eight stations. His personal best in a full HYROX race is 1 hour and 3 minutes, and his real goal for next year is qualifying for the world championships in Hong Kong.

Sometimes the most inspiring achievements come not from breaking records, but from showing what's possible when you combine determination, community support, and a willingness to do something that sounds completely impossible.
