Augustana Vikings Go Undefeated on Day 1 of CCIW Tourney

When college athletes dream of championship tournaments, they imagine days like Thursday at Inspiration Field in Bloomington, Illinois.

The Augustana Vikings made those dreams reality, sweeping both their games at the opening day of the 2026 CCIW Softball Championship. They're now the only undefeated team heading into Friday's matchups.

Augustana started strong in their first game against North Park, with Alexis Duke launching a solo home run in the opening inning. The Vikings didn't let up, with Madi Bickell and Aubrey Gradin adding home runs to secure a 7-4 victory.

The team barely caught their breath before returning to the field for game two against Millikin. Duke continued her hot streak, and teammate Mikaylin Hofer sealed the 9-3 win with a seventh-inning home run.

Pitcher Mya Brown earned both wins for Augustana, showing remarkable endurance by throwing a complete game in the second matchup with seven strikeouts. Her performance exemplifies the dedication these student athletes bring to championship play.

Illinois Wesleyan also advanced with a 9-6 victory over North Central in the winners' bracket. North Central had opened the day with an 8-5 comeback win against Carthage but couldn't maintain momentum in their second game.
