Australia Backs $34B Clean Energy Push With 14 Projects

Australia's most populous state just took a major leap toward a cleaner energy future, backing 14 renewable projects that could transform how millions of people power their homes and businesses.

New South Wales announced its first round of endorsed projects under a new government program designed to speed up clean energy development. The 14 projects represent about $34 billion in private investment and include solar farms, wind projects, batteries, and hydro facilities spread across the state.

Among the winners is the Dinawan Solar Farm, planned for the Riverina region between Jerilderie and Coleambally. Sydney-based Spark Renewables will develop the project as part of a larger energy hub in the state's Southwest Renewable Energy Zone.

The endorsement doesn't mean automatic approval, but it does give these projects something valuable: direct government support. Each project gets a dedicated concierge service, planning help, and coordination across multiple state agencies to cut through red tape and delays.

Energy Minister Penny Sharpe says the program tackles a problem that's been slowing down renewable projects for years. "These endorsed projects will mean more reliable and affordable power for NSW, and more jobs and investment right across the state, particularly in regional NSW," she said.

The initiative comes after 48 major proposals worth $136 billion flooded in during the first application round. Of those, 22 focused on renewable energy and energy security, totaling about $63 billion in potential investment.

This coordinated approach could reshape how Australia builds its energy future. By removing bureaucratic roadblocks, the state is making it easier for private companies to invest billions in clean power.
