Australia Plans to Double Fuel Reserves by 2030

The Australian Fuel Security Facility would help fuel importers and refineries build at least 1 billion litres of extra onshore storage. The investment recognizes a simple truth: when fuel stops, everything stops. Trucks can't deliver food, farms can't operate, and businesses shut down.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen confirmed over the weekend that Australia's fuel stockpile is actually higher now than before the Iran crisis began, with 58 oil tankers currently heading to Australian shores. Supply chains are working, but the close call showed the need for better preparation.

Current international standards recommend countries hold 90 days worth of fuel reserves. Australia isn't there yet, but doubling the minimum stockholding would put the nation within range of that goal.
