Author at 63 Urges Husbands to Support Wives' Dreams

A grandmother's story of faith and perseverance has sparked a conversation about partnership in marriage, proving it's never too late to share wisdom with the world.

Dr. Faith Chiejina launched her first novel "Rachel" in Abuja this June, drawing from her late grandmother's life to tell a story about patience, faith, and mutual support in marriage. The author published her debut at age 63, showing that creativity and purpose have no expiration date.

At the book launch, Chiejina shared a message for young couples. She urged husbands to support their wives' ambitions rather than asking them to abandon their goals after marriage.

"When a woman succeeds, she helps lift burdens from her husband and contributes to the well-being of the entire family," Chiejina told the audience of academics, family members, and literary enthusiasts. "The person you are asking to stop working today may eventually become one of the greatest sources of strength and support for the family."

The novel follows Rachel through years of hardship, including childlessness and loss, until she finds fulfillment through faith and her husband's unwavering support. Chiejina said her grandmother remained industrious and steadfast through every challenge, teaching her that patience during difficult seasons leads to purpose.

Dr. James Abuhinsi echoed these themes at the event, sharing how his parents waited 13 years for a child while facing intense pressure. He encouraged couples to view marriage as a partnership built on shared responsibility.

"Every man has a duty to encourage his wife," Abuhinsi said. "Men should support their wives in reaching the highest level of their aspirations and never feel threatened if they earn more or achieve more."

The book's message extends beyond individual marriages. When families embrace mutual support, they create stronger foundations for entire communities.

Book reviewer Angel Fortune Ogbeta highlighted how Rachel chose to define herself by her purpose rather than public opinion, remaining industrious despite her struggles. She urged readers to draw inspiration from Rachel's determination and faith.

Ms. Rhoda Kusimo Iloba, who partnered on the project, praised the novel as a tribute to the strength and resilience of women. She encouraged women facing challenges in marriage and family life to find hope in Rachel's story.

Sir Chika Dada Chiejina, the author's husband and co-presenter, described the book as proof that patience and commitment transform lives. "It demonstrates that when people remain patient, God shows up in His own time," he said.
