Scientists had struggled for years to measure this accurately, which meant they couldn't calculate the remnant's true size, how fast it's expanding, or exactly when the explosion happened.
The image captured by the telescope shows both cosmic endings and beginnings in one frame. Near the center sits a neutron star, the ultra-dense core left behind when a massive star exploded, surrounded by the glowing gas from that ancient death.
That same explosion's debris cloud now cradles Ve 7-27, a star just beginning its journey. It's a reminder that in space, death and birth happen side by side, each fueling the other in an endless cycle of creation.
