Bangladesh Launches KLIMA to Fund Local Climate Solutions

Bangladesh is taking a bold new approach to fighting climate change by putting communities and young people at the center of solutions.

The country launched KLIMA this week, a platform that bridges the gap between local climate ideas and the funding needed to make them happen. Unveiled in Dhaka on Wednesday, the initiative connects policymakers, investors, businesses, and communities to develop climate solutions from the ground up.

Bangladesh faces some of the world's most severe climate threats. Rising seas, cyclones, floods, and ecosystem damage put millions at risk and force people from their homes.

But instead of waiting for top-down solutions, KLIMA flips the script. The platform recognizes that people living in climate-vulnerable areas often develop the most practical solutions because they experience the impacts first.

Dr Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs, launched the KLIMA logo at the event. He stressed that government projects alone can't solve the crisis.

"Government can deliver projects, but projects have timelines," Dr Parvez said. "Lasting success depends on society taking ownership."

The platform will focus on locally led adaptation and nature based solutions. Hasibul Islam Rafi will coordinate KLIMA's work to identify promising climate projects, connect them with partners, and help scale solutions that work.

KLIMA brings together an unusual mix of players. Government agencies, international organizations, NGOs, businesses, youth groups, and local communities will all collaborate through the platform.

The goal is simple: transform good ideas into funded projects. Too often, communities develop smart climate solutions but can't access the investment needed to expand them.

The Ripple Effect

KLIMA's impact could extend far beyond Bangladesh. As one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, Bangladesh has become a laboratory for adaptation strategies.

Other developing nations face similar challenges with sea level rise, extreme weather, and limited access to climate finance. If KLIMA successfully connects local innovation with global investment, it could become a model for climate action worldwide.

The platform puts special emphasis on youth participation in climate decision making. Young people will help shape policies and solutions, ensuring the next generation has a voice in their own future.

By combining policy dialogue, financing, innovation, and civic participation, Bangladesh is showing that climate resilience starts with communities—and KLIMA might just be the bridge that turns local wisdom into global change.
