Bauchi Governor and Wife Visit Injured Journalists

When journalists get hurt doing their jobs, it's easy to feel like their work goes unnoticed. But in Bauchi State, Nigeria, government leaders showed they truly value the press.

Several journalists were injured in a road accident last Friday while covering the inauguration of development projects along Bauchi–Yelwan Duguri Road. The reporters represented major outlets including ARISE TV, Channels Television, and the Nigerian Television Authority, plus local media from Bauchi State.

Governor Bala Mohammed visited the injured journalists that same weekend at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital. His wife, Aishatu Bala Mohammed, followed up with her own hospital visit to check on their recovery.

The state government immediately took responsibility for all medical treatment costs. No journalists lost their lives in the accident, and most have already been treated and discharged from the hospital.

During her visit, Mrs. Mohammed praised media practitioners for their commitment to keeping the public informed. She thanked them for their patriotism and the sacrifices they make in service of their communities.

Her spokesperson, Zainab Garba Musa, shared that the first lady expressed deep concern over the incident and reassured both patients and hospital staff of her continued prayers and support. She urged the recovering journalists to remain strong and optimistic during their healing process.

The accident happened while the press corps was covering work by the North East Development Commission, a regional development agency. Despite the serious nature of the crash, the quick medical response and government support helped ensure positive outcomes for everyone involved.
