Baylor Player Hits 3 Grand Slams in College Baseball Debut

Imagine making your debut for a new team and immediately doing something only one other player has achieved in seven decades.

That's exactly what happened to Tyce Armstrong on Friday night in Waco, Texas. The senior first baseman transferred to Baylor from Texas-Arlington and wasted zero time making an impression.

Armstrong blasted three grand slams against New Mexico State in Baylor's 15-2 season-opening victory. He joins Louisville's Jim LaFountain as the only college baseball players to accomplish this feat since 1957.

"I'm speechless," Armstrong said after the game. "It's the coolest thing I've ever been a part of."

The power display was remarkably consistent. Armstrong sent all three home runs to left field with distances of 401 feet, 407 feet, and 386 feet across the third, fourth, and seventh innings.

He finished the night 3-for-4 with 12 RBIs, accounting for most of Baylor's scoring by himself. For context, that's more runs batted in than most players record in an entire week.

Armstrong's story reminds us that fresh starts can lead to extraordinary moments. After three solid seasons at Texas-Arlington where he hit 17 home runs and drove in 87 runs, he could have easily felt pressure to prove himself at his new school.

Instead, he channeled that energy into one of the most memorable debuts in college baseball history. LaFountain's record has stood since 1976, when he hit two of his three grand slams in the same inning during a 26-4 blowout.

What makes this achievement even more special is its rarity beyond college. No Major League Baseball player has ever hit three grand slams in one game, though 13 players have managed two.
