Beer Label Contest Raises $31K for Animal Rescue

When Pet and Wildlife Rescue pitched a dog photo contest to Red Barn Brewing Co., they hoped to raise $20,000 for veterinary bills. The community had bigger plans, delivering more than $31,000 and turning 136 local pups into fundraising champions.

The Top Dog Beer Label Photo Contest invited dog owners to enter their pets for a chance to be featured on an actual Red Barn beer label. Every vote cast required a donation, turning community pride into life-saving funds for animals waiting at the shelter.

The contest did more than fill the fundraising bucket. It gave dog owners a chance to share their pets' stories, brought attention to the shelter's work, and rallied the community around a local cause and a local business all at once.

On June 28, the shelter and brewery hosted a special VIP night where contestants brought their dogs to the brewery for the big reveal. Pete and George, a duo whose photo captured the most votes, claimed the top spot and earned their place on a Red Barn label.

The Ripple Effect

The $11,000 overage means Pet and Wildlife Rescue can provide veterinary care for even more animals in need of second chances. Every dollar goes directly to medical treatment for shelter animals in Chatham-Kent, giving creatures without voices a fighting chance at recovery and adoption.

The success surprised even the organizers. What started as a fun idea between two local organizations became a model for how businesses and nonprofits can work together to create joy while solving real problems.

Red Barn Brewing Co. and Pet and Wildlife Rescue announced they're making the contest an annual tradition. Next summer, even more local dogs will get their shot at beer label fame while raising funds for animals who need help the most.

Sometimes the best fundraisers are the ones that let a community celebrate what it loves while supporting what it values.
