Bengaluru Citizens Sign Up to Plant 43,000 Trees

Bengaluru residents are turning their city greener, one sapling at a time, with overwhelming enthusiasm that has officials racing to keep up with demand.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority launched "Bengaluru Hasiruru" (Bengaluru Green) to plant trees across the city. Before the campaign officially kicks off on August 15, citizens have already committed to planting more than 43,000 saplings. That number is climbing every day.

Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao is calling on even more residents and neighborhood associations to join the movement. The goal is ambitious but achievable: plant 60,000 saplings throughout the city while putting another 40,000 trees directly into residents' hands.

The campaign isn't just about planting and walking away. Officials are organizing training sessions in every city corporation to teach residents proper planting techniques and long-term care. After all, a sapling only becomes a tree with months of careful attention.

Neighborhood groups with space for at least 30 saplings can apply online or by email through August 10. The Forest Department will inspect proposed locations to ensure trees get planted in spots where they'll actually thrive. City corporations will handle the physical planting work at approved sites.
