Berlin and Israel Partner on Aerospace Innovation Hub

Berlin is becoming home to a new innovation center that will help the next generation of aerospace and defense technology take flight.

The German capital signed an agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to establish a hub supporting startups working on aerospace, defense, security and dual-use technologies. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner and IAI President Boaz Levy finalized the deal this week during the ILA Air Show.

The new center will offer accelerator programs, partnerships and pilot projects to help young companies turn their ideas into reality. It reflects a deepening relationship between Germany and Israel on defense technology that's already delivering results.

IAI built the Arrow-3 missile defense system that Germany received last year, a cornerstone of Berlin's vision to lead the European Sky Shield Initiative. The company also supplies Heron TP drones to the German Air Force, strengthening the country's defense capabilities during uncertain times.

Wegner emphasized that Berlin is the perfect location for this kind of innovation center. Given today's geopolitical challenges, strengthening investment in aerospace technology has become increasingly important for European security.

The partnership represents IAI's long-term commitment to Europe and its goal of building strategic relationships that combine innovation with operational expertise. Levy described it as a vision for deep collaboration that benefits both partners.

Other Israeli defense companies are expanding their European presence too. Elbit Systems, Israel's largest defense contractor, plans to grow its German workforce to 1,000 employees over the next four years. During the same air show, Elbit signed an agreement with German manufacturer Diehl Defence to produce SkyStriker loitering munitions in Germany.

The Ripple Effect

This collaboration extends far beyond a single building or program. Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor noted that security cooperation between the two countries spans both major procurement programs and quieter projects that receive less public attention.

The innovation hub will create opportunities for startups that might otherwise struggle to access resources and expertise in these specialized fields. Young companies developing breakthrough technologies will gain support from established industry leaders with proven track records.

The partnership also strengthens Europe's technological independence and defense capabilities at a critical moment. By combining Israeli innovation with German manufacturing expertise, the hub positions Berlin as a center for developing solutions to 21st-century security challenges.
