Bihar AI Push Creates 10,000 Tech Jobs at IIT Patna

Bihar is making its boldest bet yet on artificial intelligence, and thousands of young people will reap the rewards. The state government just signed deals worth $56 million to create 10,000 new tech jobs and train 50,000 youth in cutting-edge AI skills.

The centerpiece is a $30 million research park at IIT Patna, one of India's premier engineering schools. The facility will bring together tech companies, researchers, and students to solve real-world problems using artificial intelligence.

Bihar also secured funding for an AI Centre of Excellence worth $7.2 million. Tiger Analytics, a data science firm based in Chennai, will partner with IIT Patna to run the center and connect students directly with industry opportunities.

The deals came together at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, which drew CEOs from over 100 tech companies and representatives from 135 countries. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary led the state's delegation and inaugurated Bihar's pavilion at the five-day event.

Global Capability Centres are also part of the package. These specialized tech hubs allow international companies to tap into local talent pools, and Bihar is positioning itself as an attractive destination under its new 2026 GCC Policy.

The timing matters because Bihar has historically lagged behind other Indian states in technology sector growth. These investments signal a turning point for a state often associated with agricultural traditions rather than tech innovation.

The Ripple Effect

The impact extends far beyond job numbers. When 50,000 young people gain AI skills, they carry that knowledge back to their communities. Some will start businesses, others will mentor the next wave, and many will prove that opportunity isn't limited to traditional tech hubs like Bangalore or Hyderabad.

The research park at IIT Patna will also anchor Bihar's growing technology ecosystem. Students who might have left the state for opportunities elsewhere now have compelling reasons to stay and build their careers at home.

Local officials emphasized that the focus on skill development ensures the jobs won't just exist but will be filled by Biharis. The training programs will prepare youth for roles in machine learning, data science, and AI applications across industries from agriculture to healthcare.
