Bobcat Beats Odds After 4-Hour Surgery in Pennsylvania

A bobcat hit by a car in central Pennsylvania is back in the wild after a months-long recovery that brought an entire community together.

Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County received their first-ever bobcat patient on February 15 when an Adams County Game Warden rushed the injured animal to their facility. The bobcat had been struck by a vehicle and was in serious trouble.

X-rays revealed the worst: both of the wild cat's legs were broken. The animal was in shock, and the prognosis looked grim for a creature that depends entirely on its legs for survival.

But the team at Raven Ridge wasn't ready to give up. Surgeons operated for more than four and a half hours the very next morning, carefully repairing the bobcat's shattered legs. The delicate surgery was just the beginning of a long road to recovery.

As the bobcat healed, the center faced a new challenge. They needed a specialized enclosure that would give the wild animal enough space to rebuild strength and practice hunting skills without human contact. The custom cage they wanted wouldn't be ready in time, and funding was tight.

Then something beautiful happened. A loyal supporter of the center passed away, and their family made a memorial donation. It was exactly enough to build the custom bobcat cage.

The Ripple Effect
