Brickell Hero Holds Robbery Suspect Despite Pepper Spray

When a woman's cries for help rang out near Southwest 14th Street in Miami's Brickell neighborhood, one man didn't hesitate to act. Despite being pepper-sprayed during the confrontation, he held down the suspected thief until police arrived.

The incident unfolded on Thursday when 21-year-old Yagiz Dogan allegedly approached a woman and offered to buy two expensive bracelets before grabbing them and running. Nearby residents heard the victim's shouts and immediately sprang into action.

Witness Xio Fermin was walking his dog when he heard the commotion. "I'm not sure what he was thinking, but that's definitely the wrong time," Fermin said, noting that Brickell is typically one of Miami's safest neighborhoods.

Video from the scene shows several bystanders surrounding Dogan as the good Samaritan pinned him to the ground. The unnamed hero's persistence proved crucial when Dogan deployed pepper spray in an attempt to escape.

Police arrested Dogan and charged him with grand theft and battery. During his bond hearing, Judge Mindy Glazer revealed this wasn't his first alleged offense.

Court records show Dogan faces charges in a July case where he allegedly arranged to buy a $15,000 diamond ring through Facebook Marketplace, only to flee with the jewelry. "I agree with the state. He's targeting people," Judge Glazer stated.
