Bride Pauses Wedding to Surprise Daughter with Proposal

Miranda Marie Bair was about to toss her wedding bouquet when she did something no one saw coming. She walked straight to her daughter Brooklyn and placed the flowers in her hands—then watched as Brooklyn's boyfriend Landon dropped to one knee.

The April 4 wedding turned into a double celebration. Miranda had spent months secretly planning the surprise proposal with Landon, who had been dating Brooklyn since sixth grade.

"It was the kind of surprise you dream of pulling off," Miranda told PEOPLE. The idea came from an unexpected source: Miranda's son suggested weaving the proposal into the wedding reception, where both families would already be gathered and dressed up.

Miranda raised Brooklyn through difficult years as a young single mom. She later had a son at 22 while his father struggled with addiction and incarceration. Working multiple jobs while attending cosmetology school, Miranda never lost sight of building a better future for her kids.

Now 38 and newly married to businessman Bryan Bair, Miranda says sharing this milestone with her 19-year-old daughter held special meaning. "As a mother, your children are always at the center of your world," she explains. "Being able to create that moment for her—surrounded by love, family and such a meaningful setting—was incredibly special."
