Brothers Win World Series Rings a Decade Apart

Willson Contreras could barely watch as his younger brother William recorded the final out of the 2026 World Series with the Milwaukee Brewers. He buried his face in the shirt in front of him before erupting in celebration.

The moment marked something extraordinarily special in baseball history. Both Contreras brothers are now World Series champions, a feat accomplished by very few siblings in the sport's long history.

Willson won his ring first, catching for the 2016 Chicago Cubs team that ended a 108-year championship drought. At 34, he's still thriving with the Boston Red Sox, earning his fourth All-Star selection this past season with 27 home runs.

William took a different path but got there twice. He won his first ring as a backup catcher with the 2021 Atlanta Braves, then became a star after joining Milwaukee in a three-team trade.

This World Series belonged to William. He dominated Game 1 with two RBI hits and threw out two baserunners, finishing the series with eight hits and four RBIs. His performance helped him finish fifth in MVP voting earlier in 2024.

After the final out, William wrapped himself in a Venezuelan flag his brother had signed after this year's All-Star Game. Both brothers represented Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, and the flag carried a message of hope for their earthquake-devastated homeland.

Sunny's Take

What makes this story shine isn't just the championships. It's Willson's pure joy for his brother's success. There was no jealousy that William now has two rings to his one, just a big brother celebrating his younger sibling's greatest moment.

The Contreras brothers grew up in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, dreaming of baseball glory. Both made it to the All-Star Game in 2022, a testament to their talent and dedication. Their success carries extra meaning as they represent their struggling country on baseball's biggest stage.

Family support looks different for everyone, but watching Willson leap and celebrate in that Milwaukee jersey captures something universal about sibling love.

When your family wins, you win too.
