Buckhannon 5K Benefits Student Nurses This Saturday

A morning of capes, community, and healthy living comes to West Virginia Wesleyan College this Saturday, September 19.

The Healthy Hero Hubstle 5K Run/Walk returns alongside a free health fair, bringing together fitness enthusiasts and families for a morning that celebrates wellness while supporting the next generation of nurses. WVU Medicine St. Joseph's Hospital and West Virginia Wesleyan College are teaming up to host the event, with all race proceeds going directly to the Student Nurses of Wesleyan.

Runners and walkers are encouraged to dress as their favorite superheroes. The 5K kicks off at 10 a.m., with race-day registration opening at 9 a.m. for those who haven't signed up yet.

But you don't need to run to join the fun. The free health fair runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Wesleyan's fountain loop on Camden Avenue, and it's open to everyone with no registration required.

Eighteen vendors will offer health screenings and information throughout the morning. Kids can get their faces painted for free, and Zul's will be available on a pay-what-you-can basis, with cash donations supporting the student nurses.

The Ripple Effect

This event does more than promote individual health. By directing proceeds to Student Nurses of Wesleyan, the race creates a direct pipeline of support for future healthcare workers who will serve communities across central West Virginia.

The student nurses gain financial support for their education while getting hands-on experience organizing a major community health initiative. Meanwhile, families who attend the fair get free access to health resources and screenings they might otherwise skip.

Registration costs $40 on race day, though children five and younger can participate free. Awards will be presented at 11:30 a.m., with professional timing provided by Appalachian Timing Group.

Parking is available along nearby streets, at the Buckhannon River Walk, and on the Wesleyan campus.
