Bulgaria's Burgas Will Host Eurovision 2027

Bulgaria just scored its biggest spotlight yet, and the whole country is getting ready to shine.

The Black Sea city of Burgas will host the Eurovision Song Contest on May 15, 2027, following Bulgarian singer Dara's historic first-time win in Vienna this year. Her catchy song "Bangaranga" beat out 25 other countries and brought the world's biggest live music event to her home nation for the first time ever.

Burgas, a coastal city of 190,000 people, beat out the capital Sofia to host the event. The contest will take place at Arena Burgas, a venue that can expand from 5,500 seats to hold up to 15,000 people for the semifinals on May 11 and 13, plus the grand final.

"It's an honour and a privilege to be chosen," said Burgas mayor Dimitar Nikolov. "We will give it our all to perform at a high level and be remembered as a successful host."

The win comes after Bulgaria had to skip the last three Eurovision contests for financial reasons. Dara's victory marked a comeback moment for the nation, which first joined the competition in 2005 but had never claimed the crown until 2026.

The Ripple Effect

The Eurovision stage has launched some of music's biggest names into stardom, from ABBA to Celine Dion. Now it's putting a spotlight on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, home to golden-sand beaches and resort towns like Sunny Beach.

Tourism accounts for about 8 percent of Bulgaria's economy, and the country remains one of the European Union's most affordable destinations. Hosting Eurovision gives millions of viewers a reason to discover what locals already know: their coastline rivals any in Europe.

The 2026 contest drew 131 million viewers worldwide. That's millions of eyes on Burgas next May, millions of potential visitors seeing Bulgaria's beaches, culture, and hospitality on display.
