BYD's new Denza Z electric supercar beat a $420,000 Lamborghini Temerario in two out of three drag races at a recent test, despite costing half the price. Starting at $193,000 in the UK, the Denza Z packs three electric motors delivering 1,582 horsepower and can rocket from 0 to 62 mph in just 1.96 seconds with the right tires.

The showdown happened when automotive reviewers at CarWow pitted the Chinese electric supercar against the Italian gas-powered legend. After warming up the tires, the Denza Z left the Lamborghini in its dust during rolling starts and subsequent races.

What makes this more than just another rich person's toy is the technology filtering down to everyday drivers. BYD's breakthrough includes an 800-volt charging system that takes the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, solving one of electric vehicles' biggest pain points.

The Denza Z comes in three variants: Coupe, Spider, and Racing, all built on BYD's new e3 platform. This marks the first fully self-developed steer-by-wire system from the Chinese manufacturer, paired with magnetorheological intelligent suspension that can literally make the car "dance" and hop over obstacles.

Beyond raw speed, the Denza Z undercuts the $270,000 Porsche 911 Turbo S on both price and acceleration, while offering similar luxury and handling. In China, prices start at just $100,000 for the base Coupe, making high-performance electric driving accessible to more buyers.
