Cadbury Employees Give £5,000 to Welsh Care Home
Factory workers in Wales just helped their local care home secure a £5,000 grant to build a sensory room for elderly residents. The donation came through Cadbury Foundation's employee-driven charity program that's now given away over £1 million.
A care home in Chirk, Wales is building a new sensory room for its elderly residents, thanks to a £5,000 donation championed by a local chocolate factory worker.
Ian Evans, a manufacturing team leader at Mondelēz International's Chirk facility, nominated Chirk Court Care Home for a grant through The Cadbury Foundation's "Your Charity, Your Choice" program. His colleagues voted to support his nomination, securing the funds for the home where he'd seen firsthand the quality care residents receive.
The program gives employees at Cadbury's parent company the power to direct funding to causes they care about in their own communities. Now in its fourteenth year, the initiative has distributed more than £1 million to local charities across the UK and Ireland.
"Chirk Court Care Home does so much fantastic work providing high-quality care to its residents, and I know this generous grant will have an incredibly positive impact," Evans said. He was thrilled his colleagues rallied behind his nomination.

The care home plans to use the donation to create a sensory room that will be open not just to residents but to the wider community. Deputy Manager Laura Shone said the new space will help residents maintain their independence and stay socially connected with others.
The Ripple Effect
This single donation represents something bigger happening across Britain. The Cadbury Foundation, created 90 years ago by company founders George and Richard Cadbury, celebrated its anniversary last year by awarding £90,000 to employee-selected charities.
Hundreds of community programs have received support since the initiative launched. Each grant stems from an employee who saw a need in their neighborhood and decided to act.
Kelly Farrell, Community Affairs Manager at Mondelēz International, emphasized that the program succeeds because it trusts workers to know what their communities need most. Local employees hand-select every charity and project that receives funding.
At Chirk Court Care Home, the team believes all people deserve person-centered care focused on individual needs and dignity. Thanks to Evans and his coworkers, they can keep delivering on that promise while expanding their services to reach more people in the community.
