Cambodia Hosts Global Summit to Fight Online Scams

Countries from around the world are joining forces in Cambodia this September to take down the criminal networks behind online scams that steal billions from victims globally.

The International Conference on Combating Online Scams will take place in Phnom Penh on September 23-24, marking a major step forward in international cooperation against digital fraud. Cambodia expects representatives from the FBI and other international law enforcement agencies to attend, according to Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The conference tackles a growing threat that no single country can fight alone. Online scammers now operate sophisticated networks that span multiple countries, exploiting digital technology and financial systems to trap victims across borders.

Ministry spokesperson Tep Asnarith emphasized that the gathering will help countries share strategies and experiences in disrupting these criminal operations. The goal is simple: strengthen cooperation in prevention, investigation, and victim protection.

Cambodia has ramped up its own enforcement efforts in recent months, conducting operations against suspected scam compounds throughout the country. Authorities have worked closely with foreign embassies to identify and help victims who were trafficked or forced into scam operations.
