Canadian Firm's $8K EV Transforms Into 18 Different Vehicles

Imagine buying one electric vehicle that could be your weekend golf cart today, your farm utility truck tomorrow, and something completely different next year.

Canadian company ENVO Drive Systems just unveiled exactly that. Their new Utility Personal Transporter (UPT) is a modular electric platform that transforms into 18 different vehicle types, all starting from one common base.

Instead of forcing buyers to purchase separate vehicles for every job, ENVO built a customizable chassis that adapts to nearly any need. Buyers can configure it into a low-speed neighborhood vehicle, golf cart, cargo hauler, utility ATV, or industrial transport. The company even offers a 3D online builder where customers design their perfect ride from scratch.

Founder Ali Kazemkhani says most manufacturers sell one vehicle for one purpose. "With UPT, we build one platform that users can tailor into the perfect vehicle for what they need today and adapt for what they may need tomorrow," he explains.

The system took four years to develop and tackles a real industry problem. Specialized electric vehicles cost a fortune because manufacturers produce them in tiny batches. By mass-producing one adaptable platform, ENVO can offer custom functionality without the crushing price tag.

Customers choose from different drivetrains, battery packs, steering systems, wheels, seating arrangements, cargo beds, and accessories. Depending on the build, features can include four-wheel drive, individual wheel traction control, smartphone integration, solar charging capability, and even preparation for future remote operation.

The Ripple Effect

This innovation could transform how farms, resorts, warehouses, airports, campuses, and delivery operations think about their vehicle fleets. Instead of buying multiple specialized vehicles that sit idle most of the time, organizations could invest in adaptable platforms that shift between tasks as needs change.

Small businesses could particularly benefit. A coffee cart operator could reconfigure the same base into a delivery vehicle during slow seasons. Construction sites could swap between cargo hauling and personnel transport without buying separate equipment.

Pricing ranges from $8,000 to $12,000 depending on configuration, making it competitive with single-purpose alternatives that can't transform. Pre-orders are open now, with production beginning late fall and first deliveries arriving in early 2027.

The real test will be whether the system proves durable after years of reconfiguration and whether buyers actually use the flexibility they're paying for.
