Cancer Survivor at 27 Auditions for Victoria's Secret

A Michigan woman who survived a rare breast cancer at age 13 just turned her childhood dream into a powerful message of self-acceptance.

Saige Mosingo, now 27, recently shared an audition tape for Victoria's Secret Angels that caught the attention of the iconic brand and women worldwide. Her story is reshaping what beauty can look like on the runway.

When Mosingo was just 13, doctors diagnosed her with a malignant Phyllodes tumor, an extremely rare form of breast cancer that makes up less than 1% of all breast tumors. Within one month of diagnosis, she underwent a mastectomy, losing her breast as a middle schooler navigating crushes, friendships, and all the challenges of growing up.

The years that followed were far from easy. Mosingo struggled with bullying and self-image as she learned to live in a body that felt unfamiliar. "Not only was I at the age where you start having crushes and boys start noticing you, but I had to do that all while re-learning my body," she tells PEOPLE.

But something shifted around age 25. After multiple surgeries and years of healing, Mosingo began to see her scars differently. "My scars are big, my scars are bold, and now my scars are a symbol of strength and beauty," she says.

She decided to audition for the role she'd dreamed about since childhood, watching Victoria's Secret runway shows with wide-eyed wonder. This time, she brought her whole self, scars visible and confidence unshakable.

The Ripple Effect

The response has been overwhelming. Women from around the world have reached out to share their own stories of scars, surgeries, and self-acceptance. What started as one woman's audition tape became a movement of body positivity and representation.

Mosingo hopes her platform will challenge traditional beauty standards and advocate for cancer survivors everywhere. She wants young girls facing similar diagnoses to see that their scars don't limit their dreams.
