CrossFit Athlete Beats Leukemia, Launches Box of Hope

When Megan Mulvey received her acute lymphoblastic leukemia diagnosis in 2023, she had no idea her CrossFit workouts would become her lifeline.

Over the next year, the Peachtree City athlete endured 51 rounds of chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant in April 2024. Her oncologist told her something remarkable: those intense CrossFit sessions had prepared her body to withstand the brutal treatment.

Mulvey defeated the disease in 2024. But instead of simply returning to normal life, she decided to channel her strength toward others still fighting.

"I wanted to create something to give back," Mulvey said. "And so, literally, one day, I woke up, and I was like, 'Okay, I'm going to do this.'"

She founded Box of Hope, a nonprofit that brings together the CrossFit community to host fundraising workouts for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The organization combines the physical training culture that saved her life with direct support for children facing their own medical battles.

At CrossFit PTC, every workout now carries deeper meaning for Mulvey. Each rep and round serves as both a celebration of her survival and a commitment to helping others.

"Just knowing what they're going through at such a young age, and knowing what the family probably has to endure, is just awful," Mulvey said. "And it's just something I felt led to do."

The Ripple Effect

Mulvey's story demonstrates how personal adversity can transform into community action. By connecting the CrossFit community with pediatric cancer families, she's building a support network that extends far beyond financial help.

Her experience proves that functional fitness prepared her body for survival, but it's her spirit that's now preparing hope for others. Box of Hope creates a bridge between those who've found strength through fitness and families desperately needing both practical support and encouragement.

Now back at CrossFit PTC, Mulvey trains with renewed purpose, knowing each workout honors both her recovery and her commitment to pediatric cancer families who need hope most.
