Feel Good

Cardiff rugby champion Lee Griffiths crossed 120 kilometers of scorching Sahara sands to support families living with dementia. Inspired by his father, his desert trek beat fundraising targets and brought vital awareness to Alzheimer's support.

When love drives your steps, even the world's most unforgiving desert becomes a pathway of hope. Community champion Lee Griffiths proved that truth by completing a grueling 120-kilometer trek across the Sahara Desert to support families facing dementia.

Lee took on the punishing desert terrain after watching his own father navigate life with Alzheimer's disease. For him, every step over shifting dunes and under blazing skies was a deeply personal mission to honor his dad and fund essential care.

Trekking through vast expanses of sand tested Lee both physically and mentally. Whenever fatigue set in, he focused on taking the journey one step at a time, drawing strength from the knowledge that he was helping countless families back home.

His dedication paid off in a big way. Lee shattered his initial £5,000 fundraising goal for the Alzheimer's Society while rallying widespread awareness for dementia support networks.

This desert journey builds on years of passionate community work in Wales. As a dedicated Cardiff Rugby Season Member, Lee previously helped create the Sport and Memory Café at Cardiff Arms Park in partnership with the Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation and Alzheimer's Society.

That initiative recently celebrated its second anniversary of bringing joy to local families. Every two weeks, the café opens its doors for reminiscence sessions, sporting trivia, music, and uplifting social gatherings that keep dementia patients connected and cherished.

The Ripple Effect

Lee's footsteps across North Africa are already making a lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable families. The money raised will ensure local initiatives and national support services continue offering vital lifelines to those navigating cognitive decline.

By turning his family's personal heartache into community action, Lee has built a welcoming haven that combats isolation and sparks lasting friendships. His journey reminds us that true champions do not just play for their clubs, they lift up entire neighborhoods.

Every single kilometer conquered in the desert now echoes as a beacon of comfort and companionship for families who need it most.
