Carson City Gets Free Healthcare From 40 Volunteers

Forty medical volunteers gave up their Saturday to provide free healthcare to Carson City residents who couldn't otherwise afford it.
The first Love Heals Free Clinic event brought together doctors, nurses, dentists, and ophthalmologists at the Carson City Community Center. No one was turned away, and no one had to prove they needed help.
"If you come here and you need help, we're going to do everything we can to take care of you," explained Caitlin Cornforth, executive director of Love Heals. The Boise-based nonprofit doesn't ask for ID, proof of income, or insurance information.
The turnout impressed organizers for a first-time event. Patients received dental work, vision screenings, and medical checkups completely free of charge.
Twenty-six first-year nursing students from Western Nevada College joined the effort, getting hands-on experience just three weeks into their program. "It's an opportunity that I've been blessed with to do for the community," said student Emily Pierce.
Carson High School's HOSA Future Health Professionals program brought 25 students to observe and learn from working medical professionals. The young volunteers watched real healthcare happen in their own community.
The Ripple Effect
Love Heals has already proven its impact. Their previous two clinics in Philadelphia and Boise provided $550,000 worth of free services to patients in just one month.
As word spreads about the program, Cornforth expects more people to show up at future events. The organization plans to return to Carson City again.
Western Nevada College hopes to bring even more nursing students next year. The partnership helps train future healthcare providers while serving the community today.
Twenty-five high school students got a firsthand look at what compassionate healthcare looks like. Some of them will become the doctors and nurses serving this same community tomorrow.
