Charity App Tracks Pakistan Water Wells via GPS

Donate Directly launched what it calls the world's first AI-powered charity platform that connects donors to specific projects in real time. Founded by Pakistani journalist Iqrar Ul Hassan, the organization is starting with water wells in rural Pakistan.

Here's how it works: donors fund a well and immediately receive GPS coordinates showing its exact location. Throughout construction, they get photo and video updates tracking progress from groundbreaking to completion.

The wells serve both people and livestock in communities where clean water access remains scarce. Each project becomes what Islamic tradition calls Sadaqah Jariyah, a continuing charitable act whose benefits extend far beyond the initial donation.

Hassan says the goal is simple transparency. "People want to know that their donation is genuinely making a difference," he explained. "Technology gives us an opportunity to bring donors closer to the people and communities they are supporting."

The organization timed its announcement with Greenpeace Day on September 15, which commemorates the 1971 voyage that sparked the environmental movement. Hassan draws a parallel between that spirit of direct action and his platform's approach to giving.

Traditional charity often feels like a black box where money disappears without visible results. Donate Directly flips that model by treating donors as partners who deserve to see their impact unfold.
