Charity Donates $30K for Baby Health Monitor in Penticton

Sometimes the best way to help children is by helping their parents bring them safely into the world.

East Meets West Children's Foundation just donated $30,000 to Penticton Regional Hospital in British Columbia. The money will buy an advanced fetal health monitor for the hospital's Women and Children's Center.

The charity usually focuses on abandoned children and kids in need around the world, providing education, medical care, and surgeries. But founder Mohini Singh saw an opportunity to help close to home too.

"East Meets West Children's Foundation aims to help children at home and overseas," Singh said. "We are very happy to be able to buy this valuable and essential piece of equipment for the urgent medical needs of infants in the South Okanagan Similkameen area."

The foundation presented their gift at the Golden Chari-Tea event at Poplar Grove Winery on June 4. Tea and generosity turned out to be a perfect pairing.

Karla Ziegler works as development officer with the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, which received the donation. She called it "an investment in the health and future of families across the South Okanagan."

This single piece of equipment will touch countless lives in the years ahead. Every pregnant mom who comes through those hospital doors will benefit from better monitoring technology.

The advanced fetal monitor helps doctors track a baby's health before birth, catching potential problems early when they're easier to treat. That means safer deliveries and healthier babies starting their lives in the South Okanagan region.
