Charter Captain Saves 3 from Sinking Boat on Lake St. Clair

Three fishermen got a terrifying reminder of nature's power when 3- to 4-foot waves swamped their 18-foot boat on Lake St. Clair Sunday morning. But they also got something better: proof that help shows up when you need it most.

Zach Garza, captain of Wolfpack Fishing Charters in Harrison Township, Michigan, spotted the distressed vessel while out on the water. He immediately turned his boat toward the sinking craft and pulled all three occupants aboard.

Garza safely delivered everyone to shore before their boat disappeared beneath the surface. Nobody was injured in the rescue.

TowBoatUS got the call to recover the damaged vessel and dispatched two boats to search the lake. When crews arrived, they found Garza already on scene finishing up his rescue operation.

The recovery team managed to pull the fishing boat from the water before it sank to the bottom of Lake St. Clair. TowBoatUS Captain Jacob Rushing confirmed the vessel sustained significant damage from the rough conditions.
